Teaching for the First Time: A Memorable Experience in Sharjah India School
As a Sharjah India School student, I had a unique opportunity to spread awareness about food wastage and preservation to a group of fifth-grade students in class 5D. The presentation was based on food heroes and how they have impacted the world we live in today. I was excited to teach the students about this crucial topic, but it was also my first time teaching students in a classroom setting.
When I stepped into the classroom, I was welcomed by a group of excited students who were eager to learn. I could see their curiosity and interest in their eyes, which gave me the confidence to start my presentation. However, as soon as I began speaking, I realized that teaching was not as easy as it seemed.
I faced numerous challenges during my teaching session. For instance, I struggled to keep the students interested and engaged throughout the presentation. I had to make sure that my speech was coherent and easily understood by the students. Despite these difficulties, I overcame them by employing interactive tools such as videos, images, and stories that helped to maintain students’ interest.
One humorous moment that I recall was when I explained the importance of food preservation. I utilized an example of how my mother would preserve food by storing it in the refrigerator. One of the students raised their hand and asked me if refrigerators were available during the time of food heroes. I was taken aback by the question but managed to explain how food preservation techniques have progressed over time.
I also had the privilege of co-teaching with my partner, Steve Matthew. Having someone to share the teaching experience with made it much more enjoyable and manageable. We collaborated and bounced ideas off each other, which helped to make the presentation more effective.
Overall, teaching in class 5D was an unforgettable experience. It allowed me to share my knowledge with others and raise awareness about a crucial issue. I also learned a lot about the challenges of teaching and the importance of engaging students. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to more teaching experiences in the future.

I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the opportunity to teach in class 5D. It was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to share my knowledge about food wastage and preservation with a group of eager and curious fifth-grade students. The support and encouragement from the school and Jaseena Hameed mam made this experience possible, and I am truly grateful for that.
